Hawadax Island

Post-eradication recovery of birds after the removal of invasive rats

Project Goal
In September-October 2008, the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge,
The Nature Conservancy, and Island Conservation partnered to remove
rats from Rat Island (later renamed Hawadax after rats were removed).
Island Conservation and its partners conducted pre and post eradication
surveys (Pre = 2007, 2008; Post = 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013) to measure the
response of native species to the removal of non-native predators

Conservation Metrics
In collaboration with Island Conservation, Conservation Metrics assisted in analysis of data from before and after the eradication for impact assessment.
